This page outlines our policies regarding confidentiality, privacy, fees, and appointment procedures. It also explains how you can access or request corrections to your personal health information.
Confidentiality and Privacy (PHIPA & PIPEDA)
Your privacy is protected under Ontario’s Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). This means your personal information cannot be shared with third parties without your written or verbal consent, except in specific legal situations.
For children and adolescents, parents or legal guardians with access rights to the child generally also have access to the child’s information. Custody arrangements may affect access and will be reviewed as needed.
Limits of Confidentiality
Psychologists in Ontario are legally required to break confidentiality in the following situations:
- Risk of serious harm to the client or others
- Suspected child abuse (reported to Children’s Aid Society)
- Suspected abuse or neglect in long-term care or retirement homes
- Reporting misconduct by another regulated health professional
- Court orders or subpoenas
- Regulatory audits by the College of Psychologists of Ontario
- Urgent police requests under the Missing Persons Act (2019)
Psychology Fees in Toronto
Psychological services are not covered by OHIP. Fees follow recommendations from the Ontario Psychological Association. Many extended health insurance plans provide partial or full reimbursement for services by registered psychologists.
Psychological services may also be claimed as a medical expense on your income tax return.
Therapy Services
Individual therapy, parent consultation, and counselling services are available.
- Session length: 50 minutes
- Fee range: $190 to $260 per session
- Fees vary depending on the clinician’s qualifications and experience
Psychological Assessment Services
We provide comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and young adults in Toronto.
Assessments typically include:
- Initial clinical interview
- Review of previous reports and records
- Standardized questionnaires (parent, teacher, self-report)
- Cognitive, academic, and psychological testing
- Scoring and interpretation
- Written report with diagnostic impressions and recommendations
- Feedback session with parents and/or clients
Assessment Fees
- Total cost for an assessment is: $2,500 to $4,500
- Materials fee: $150 to $200
- The final cost depends on the complexity of the referral concerns and testing required. While an exact estimate cannot always be provided in advance, we maintain transparency throughout the process and discuss costs as the assessment progresses.
Appointment and Cancellation Policy
- Appointments are reserved specifically for each client.
- 24 hours’ notice is required for cancellations or changes
- Missed or late-cancelled appointments may be charged the full session fee
- Exceptions may be made in cases such as illness or severe weather, at the clinician’s discretion.
